From her childhood in the DC area, to her undergraduate studies at Juilliard, to her master’s and doctoral studies at Rice University, Yvonne has always been an active artist outside of school and off the concert stage. As a Gluck Community Service Fellow and a Goldman Arts Education Fellow, she co-directed an afterschool production of High School Musical in the Bronx and presented dozens of recitals at nursing homes, shelters, and hospitals across New York City's five boroughs. She has repeatedly returned to her hometown for benefit concerts hosted by Youth Building Bridges, among others. In 2014, she initiated Piano+1, a project with Da Camera of Houston to bring the arts to low-income senior citizens. Most recently, she has been a visiting performer to Ronald McDonald House Houston to serve meals and provide entertainment to the children undergoing treatment at the medical center and their families.

As founder and pianist of Houston-based new music group, Loop38, she became interested in ways to connect with her community through musical programming that is accessible to all. As a proponent of the new and local classical music scene, she is using her non-profit leadership experiences to help Houston-based groups Kinetic Ensemble and Windsync.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, she started providing help to other musicians through making YouTube video tutorials and giving private 1:1 consultations on topics from teaching beginners and building a studio, to guidance on setting up for distance learning. With her percussionist husband, Yvonne produced and edited a series of fun Stay-At-Home family music videos, which was featured on Next Stage Arts.
